Crowdsourcing Beer - The Samuel Adams Crowd Craft Project
Daniel Neville
We love a good crowdsourcing project (obviously) but one that involves beer and crowdsourcing is just awesome - introducing the Samuel Adams Crowd Craft Project. The Samuel Adams brewery located in Boston is now giving people a say in the way they brew their beer by forging ahead with a project that will see a fully crowdsourced beer making its way onto the market at the South by Southwest Interactive Festival in Austin, Texas later this year.
Run through the Samuel Adams Facebook page fans of the brewery can all weigh in on their preferences when it comes to colour, clarity, mouth feel, sweetness, bitterness and over all character of the soon to be ale using a very simple little app. After collecting the crowds preferences the Samuel Adams brewers will use them to develop the recipe for the collaborative fan made ale. We think this is a really awesome idea and on one sums it up better than the Samuel Adams brewer Bert Boyce "Beer is very social, it always has been. Coupled with this technology is becoming more and more used for that social aspect and to generate conversation. We’re reaching out to our online drinkers to take the conversation to another level.” We could not agree more and we also think there is a very clever way to educate people on what goes into crafting and brewing a great beer.
