Stop Motion Wednesday: Legomatrix
Mari Basson
It’s no secret that there are some huge Lego fans here at Idea Bounty, which is why when this stop motion filled with Lego-liciousness crossed our desks we just had to feature it.
Basically it’s a short Lego remake of The Matrix created by Trevor Boyd and Steve Ilett.
It took 440 hours for them to create the 45 second video called Lego Matrix Trinity Help, a perfect shot by shot remake of the classic scene from the Wachowski Brothers masterpiece. The bullet time dodge was also filmed with 4 cameras simultaneously! The twosome documented it all extensively on their YouTube channel. This side by side comparison just blew me away. It’s flawless, to say the least:
The Lego Matrix website is also worth a visit. It’s an epic documentation of the whole process. There’s an awe-inspiring FAQ section where you learn that all of the effects were in-camera (no Photoshop!), they’re not pro animators (could have fooled me), this is only their second attempt at Lego animation and they built the camera rig themselves - which leaves me with only one more question– are they crazy or pure geniuses?
If you’re waiting for the whole movie or more scenes, apparently it’s not going to happen, but the guys do provide the info you’ll need to do it yourself. They share what happened on the technical side of things and they provide some helpful tips. Anyone keen to try?
