Fotoshop by Adobé
Daniel Neville
This is one of those ideas that is so obvious once you have seen it but never the less is still awesome - infact its hard to believe that someone has not tried to put together something like this before. It does to a certain extent remind me of the DOVE: Evolution campaign that was released in 2006 but im my mind 'Fotoshop by Adobé' somehow manages to communicate the same message - society's current standards of beauty are horribly skewed and distorted - in a more humorous and imaginative way. The hum ore cupeled with the spoof ads tag line “this commercial isn’t real, and neither are society’s standards of beauty.” is an brilliant example of costumer generated media taking a real stab at taking on an issue that is actually quite important
The short was created by Jesse Rosten after he was "watching TV one sleepless night and stumbled upon an infomercial for some beauty product." Jesse continues saying "The commercial showed before and after portraits, that to my eye, looked like the same photo just photoshopped. I laughed to myself. Then I made this video."
I think its important to point out that 'Fotoshop by Adobé' is not a jab a Photoshop as a product but more a commentary on the way Beauty products, magazines and almost everyone else who works in the beauty industry are responsible for the a generation of people who are in love with a false idea of beauty. Consider that a recent study showed that 71 per cent of girls with low self-esteem felt their appearance 'doesn't measure up, including not feeling pretty enough, thin enough or stylish enough or trendy enough' - not an ideal situation. So thanks to Jesse for adding to the conversation in an awesome way.
