Mobile Marketing Brief Winner Interview: Greg Albritton

Zac Rusagara

All of us here were very excited when we launched the brief from Mobile Marketing Inc. Not only was it the first naming brief on Idea Bounty but there was a hefty Bounty attached - $8000 to be exact. All in all we received well over 1800 submissions all whittled down to one winning name supplied by… drum roll….. Greg Albritton - congratulations dude!

Mobile Marketing Inc.

A big congratulation must also go out to the creatives who produced the top 20 shortlisted Ideas. You have all managed to pick up either a Silver or Bonze Award. Check out our Mobile Marketing Top 20 for more on these Awards! We also have an great little interview with our winner Greg below. Congratulations again!

Greg Albritton

1.First of all, congratulations on having the winning idea! What went through your mind when you got the phone call telling you you’d won?

It was great to receive the call that I had the winning idea! Definitely moments of disbelief and a lots of positive thoughts. A very cool thing to say the least!

2.What made you submit an Idea? Was it the Brief, the client or the challenge in coming up with a new name?

A number of things came together with this particular brief for me. I had been thinking of ideas related to marketing with cell phones in the weeks prior to submitting the idea, so my mind was already in the mobile marketing world. I love creating brands and this brief really jumped out at me.

3.How did you come up with the Idea? What were some of the inspirational tools that you made use of if any?

I’m constantly coming up with ideas for companies and for myself. My inspiration for any idea comes from my interest in creating value. We all need to contribute something and it seems what I like to contribute is ideas. This was really just another challenge that I was excited to take part in, and an opportunity to share an idea.

4.How did you come across Idea Bounty?

I had been searching for crowd sourced creative sites for a bit of time and luckily came across Idea Bounty. There are quite a few sites for crowd sourced logos and designs, but not too many for concepts. It was awesome to find a site where concepts were at the core of the projects.

5.I know that you are an avid surfer, and don’t have a “regular day job” like most of us. Do you feel that this influenced your idea submission?

Each person has a way in which they need to live to operate most efficiently and to actively create on a daily basis. People draw ideas from a number of stimuli, currently for me it is important to travel and explore new cultures to be able to think well. Some ‘regular day jobs’ can really diminish people’s creative insights due to the monotonous nature of the daily tasks...I always try to keep things changing to ensure new thoughts and perspectives.

How do you feel about being our first winner from the USA? And is this the first time that you have (didnt get the last part of this question)

Yeah, it’s cool. What’s really impressive is the amount of incredible ideas coming from all over the world. We are really beginning to see the Internet’s power in giving an international voice and platform for sharing ideas regardless of what country they are from. The future of ideas is exciting - more access to internet, more progress.

6.You have travelled from USA, started a business in Costa Rica, and now you are in Bali. Why all the travelling? Are you a bit of a nomad or you get bored easily?

As mentioned before, everyone has something that drives them to create...for me at this point it seems traveling and seeing new places is an ideal way to explore thoughts and ideas as well. Check out
www.AutenticoAdventures.com if you’re interested in exploring Costa Rica. I think only boring people get bored!

7.Do you have any immediate plans for the money?

No immediate plans for the money...but I am excited to work with other brands in the future!

8.Imagine you have an unlimited budget and you can work for any client on any brief. Who would it be, what would it be, and why.

Ideally it would be my own business/organization! If that wasn’t an option, it would be fascinating to be able to work for a client that is targeted towards creating value and self worth in developing countries. Working with something like Kiva would be pretty awesome.

9.Finally if it was a life and death situation, and you had to have a brand logo tattooed onto your forehead. Which brand go with?

I would probably go with JV’s Mexican food in San Diego. They make awesome burritos and I’d be proud to share their logo/name on my forehead.

Nice to read this interview, i have given this suggestion to many crowdsourcing sites - i.e. show an intro video (like you have shown an interview) of the winners so that all the others who did not win will continue to trust the site and not feel that the site is creating fake user-ids and awarding the prize amount to themselves and taking free ideas from the rest. Good one, the interview apart from being great in terms of the opinions of this person the winning, is also pretty believable and does not appear to be written by someone else for the sake of making the site look honest. It seems genuine, is what i want to say.
