2 Mitsubishi Outlanders, 5 World Records, 24 Hours

Daniel Neville

Personally I have always found advertising around vehicles a little predictable, I mean how many ways are there to prove that your cars are superior to the next? But this does not mean you cant make it interesting… In an attempt to do something a little different Mitsubishi took their Outlander SUV and Outlander Sport to the frozen Ghost Lake in Canada, to demonstrate the capabilities of the Outlander’s All-Wheel Control technology. They also came home with a few  official Guinness World Records.

Now the whole wheel control technology things is hard to prove - and im not sure that this proves anything since I have not seen any other cars try the same this - but it is an awesome way to get attention and hey, I will remember Mitsubishi for it. Incase you were wondering the stuntmen driving was Garvin Cross and he broke the following 5 records:

  1. Greatest distance driven by a vehicle in reverse in 30 seconds.
  2. Shortest braking distance by a vehicle on ice.
  3. Most vehicle figure 8’s on ice in 2 minutes.
  4. Fastest vehicle slalom relay on ice.
  5. Fastest driven square lap.

The originality of the core idea makes this campaign cool without even trying -  and im sure they wanted it to seep over into social media channels. Unforutnatly the promo video above is very nearly enough to hook you in. Only once you get to the really cool stuff do you want pass it on.  You can watch some of the videos of the records being broken on their site - or check out my top picks below.
