The Inventive Web

I am a fan of the internet, but more specifically I am a fan of the way it allows people to show off those sometimes bizarre and unconventional ideas that really push the limits of creativity. In my opinion 2010 was the year when people really started to push the limits and executed some really daring and creative ideas. So in order to inspire more than anything else, here is my list of websites that will amaze and consume you… have fun and get inspired. 

Sounds Of Hamburg

Conceived as an online digital campaign in order to promote the Hamburg Philharmonic Orchestra this is a really unique idea. Basically the site lets you compose music on and with the city of Hamburg. I know it sounds a little strange and you really have to interact with the site to understand the concept - trust me it will absorb you. Visit the site here. 

And Then There Was Salsa 

This is not a free standing website but was rather a collaboration between Frito Lay and video hosting website Vimeo. The video is part of a campaign for Tostitos Salsa and begins simple enough, with some beautiful CG, but quickly swallows your entire browser to become a full-screen experience. Unfortunately the original video is no longer up but you can still get the idea of what it looked like in the video . 

Optus Whale Song 

Although quite simple this is an amazingly creative site for Optus, an Australian telecommunications company. Basically the site allows you to compose a song for a whale and then get an orchestra to perform it - brilliant and all consuming. Visit the site here.

Record Tripping

Another site that wows on the audio front this is really an experimental game more than anything else. Basically you are required to solve a series of puzzles by 'scratching a record' The site is seriously addictive and possesses one of the more beautiful interfaces of the wried and whacky online games out there. Ball Pool

I love simple concepts and this one takes the cake if only because it so absorbing - especially when you have no idea why. The idea is to "click" and "shake" your browser into generating more and more balls to add to your pool. Play with the ball pool here.

Bank Of Imagination 

I love this site - basically a bank of imaginative thought all starting with the same question. "What if…."? The siteallows you to save all of your own "What if" thoughts as well as browse the thoughts of others - awesome and inspiring. Check it out here.
