How The Internet Changed Television Advertising

Some advertising practitioners still do not recognize the fact that the internet has truly changed advertising - these traditional thinkers believe the internet is a threat to what they have known all these years. This is especially true when it comes to advertising on television, the number of people still clinging onto the television ad actually baffles me. Im not saying the medium is dead (im sure there is will always be a place for the beautifully crafted and epic televisions ads like Nikes "Write the Future") but things have changed and people need to take note. Here is a great little video explaining why:

I think there are a coupe of points that are very important here. 1) People don't wait for information they look for it. 2) Information is there in abundance, it comes fast and often in real time. 3) Consumers now WILL raise their voice and give an opinion on a brand or service, they are not afraid to talk. All of this basically means that throwing out a carefully crafted message with pretty pictures is not enough anymore - brands have to work at getting people to interact with what they are viewing even if that interaction is just passing the a video along. Ironically this is exactly what I did with the above video. The key is to be able to communicate ideas and messages in such a  way that it makes a big enough impact for people to pass it on. Ultimately the main take away here is that change is constant and change is good. The best way to alleviate fear is to dip ourselves into the digital playground and see the possibilities instead of fighting against it.
