Stop Motion Wednesday - Honk If You Are Human, BBC Knowledge

Daniel Neville

I have mentioned this before but stop motion animation is fast making it into the mainstream. This weeks video is yet another example of this and takes the form of a humorous journey through some of the human races greatest and not so greatest achievements. All in aid of advertising the BBC Knowledge channel, a perfect fit im sure you will agree after seeing the animation.  It is beautifully filmed all in camera and in sequence. More on how they did it after the video.

"All of the spot is in-camera on a multi-plane table in sequence. The characters are either paper or clay. All of the backgrounds are painted. Even the natural elements, like clouds and stars, were a layer of animated paint shot in-camera. Because of the way the transitions worked from one thing to the next, we had to be careful because there wasn’t any time to start over, really. The only shot that isn’t fully in camera would be the mouse shot that we mirrored for the clone effect. "

Very cool im sure you would agree. This is not the first time BBC Knowledge have used stop motion animation for their ads, check out the predecessors to "Honk If You Are Human" below.
