Guerrilla Marketing 101
Daniel Neville
Why is guerrilla marketing so cool - “Because it works because it’s simple to understand, easy to implement and outrageously inexpensive” Those words came straight out of the mouth of Jay Conrad Levinson, the man who coined the phrase. As the world becomes more and more cluttered - especially from an advertising and communications perspective - consumers have largely grown immune to big budget campaigns. But with a bit of time, effort and creative thought it is possible to generate outstanding results through small scale stunts without speeding piles and piles of cash. Added to that you can now film these stunts and spread them to the world through the power of the internet - there is no way to get bang for your buck. Check out some of our favorite guerrilla marketing campaigns below for some inspiration:
Absolut Temptation:
The idea: Place temptation directly in the consumers path.
Ikea:
The Idea: Make different parts of town nicer with ordinary items in unexpected places.
UNICEF: Dirty Water Project
The Idea: Make people realise something they take for granted should not be.
Volkswagen: The Fast Lane
The Idea: Mix up the daily mind numbing commute by getting onto the fast lane. Brilliantly executed in multiple ways.
Loctite:
The Idea: Its an old one, but if you are selling super glue why not stick coins to the floor. This idea still rocks if only becuase it is so simple and so effective!
