Stop Motion Wednesday - Bottle by Kirsten Lepore
Daniel Neville
This weeks stop motion gem comes from Kirsten Lepore, a grad student in the experimental arts program at CalArts. 'Bottle' tells the story of a relationship between a sandman and snowman (or snowlady if you prefer) who communicate with each other by sending items in a bottle over the ocean. This is the type of story one can only really tell through animation which somehow makes the subject matter all the more engaging and emotionally charged. Kirsten has masterfully blended live film and stop motion animation to produce this wonderful bit of story telling and animation - even if the ending is a bit heart wrenching. Enjoy
Bottle is also a finalist in the 2010 Vimeo Festival & Awards animation category. If you enjoyed Bottle you can vote for Kirsten here - I think she deserves a win!
