Crowdsourcing Is Growing Up
Daniel Neville
Although the idea of asking a large undefined group of people to contribute towards solving a problem or challenge is not a new one, the formalized theory around this idea only really begun to emerge around 2006 when Jeff Howe published his article in "The Rise of Crowdsourcing" in Wired magazine. Since then crowdsourcing platforms dealing with anything from tattoo design to diagnosing medical problems has popped up. Along with this increased activity has come a slue of academic related research in the concept.
One of the biggest areas of research is what motivates a crowd to participate - an important questions im sure you will agree. One of the people doing research into this particular topic is Mohammed Haddad who is also a member of the Idea Bounty community. Mohammed has put together short questionnaire around what motivates people to participate in crowdsourcing projects with a focus on people who live in one of Africa's 54 countries. If you fall into this category please take a few minutes of your time to fill out the survey form which you can find here - it will only take about 5 minutes to complete.
