Stop Motion Wednesday - The Guy Who Walked Across America
Daniel Neville
I have mentioned this before but the number of brands using stop motion animation in their advertising is on the rise the best examples being the OlympusPEN ads that we have covered before here. Now Levis has gotten into the game and sponsored a very unique project which has resulted in an amazing little stop motion film....
Basically Levis have sponsored Mike, a young man wearing brand-new jeans from a recently launched collection of Levi’s, to make and epic mission accorss the USA on foot, starting in New York and finishing in San Francisco. During the two weeks it took to make this amazing cross-country journey 2,770 still frames were taken on a Canon EOS 5D Mark II camera and used to construct the video, a combination of stop-motion and time-lapse techniques. The route Mike walked was also tracked via google maps and the most interesting places he visited were pinned to the map - you can check it out here.
Im sure that you will agree that the video itself is an amazing piece of creative work but it really works in Levis favor too - the title of the film does not limitedly lead you to believe this is a promotion or endorsement of any product at all. That is until the last few frames where the Levis brand and the idea of freedom comes through just enough to make you realise Levis was involved but not take over the beauty of the film… if you are interested there is an awesome little behind the scenes video below.
