Stop Motion Wednesday - LEGO Fussball 2010 World Cup
Daniel Neville
By now if you have not picked up that I am a huge LEGO fan by now you are not reading this blog enough! At the same time unless you have been hiding under a rock and missed out on our last three posts (here, here and here) you would also have noticed that currently what some call the biggest sporting event on the planet is taking place is South Africa.
This weeks stop motion post manages to combine my love for the little colorful building blocks and a current hot topic - yes you guessed it today our stop motion animation is a set of beautiful recreation of the 2010 World Cup on field action done with LEGO and to top it off, its pure stop motion baby. Check out the trailer below for Fussball.com
Fussball.com is a project that has evidently been running for quite some time - similar stop motion shorts of all the European Championship games can be found on the site too. The videos are overlaid with the original commentary (apologies to those who cant speak German) and they are cut to the highlights, presumably because it would take years to otherwise produce all these shorts. An enormous amount of effort has gone into producing this, just check out the purpose built LEGO stadium below:
The ultimate idea behind the project is to produce the highlights of every match in stop motion the day after each game has been played. The ones that have gone up so far are awesome, check out the highlights of the match between South Africa and Mexico below:
Im sure you will agree that this is an awesome stop motion lego display and very enjoyable to watch. Of the highlights released so far our favorite had to be one of the eagerly anticipated fixtures of the tournament - England vs. USA (The Underdogs) For those of you who have not watched the match or wondering what the “Green incident” is all about, have a look at the video below:
By now I am sure you realise that player number four from England was none other than the Scouser prince himself, Steven Gerrard. He managed to score a goal after 3 minutes of play! The USA equalized thanks to efforts of their forward Clint Demspey and the unfortunate mishap from England goal keeper Robert Green! For the real footage of this mishap, check out the video below:
Overall a great project - massive props to Fussball.com's creator Fabian Moritz for putting these all together - Personally I love it when someone hobby can bring such great pleasure to others… and who knows with the England vs. USA game going viral and even making it on to The Guardian UK Fabian might turn a hobby into a job!
