Stop Motion Wednesday - Day In The Life Of Fred Flintstone

Ravi Reddy

Remember the time before slanderous statements were made by animated stick figures? Or that all characters were painted with the colour yellow? The time where the only stories people cared for  were about a certain “modern stone age family” from the town of Bedrock!

The Flinstones

That’s right folks; I am referring to the infamous television family, The Flintstones. Below is a fantastic stop motion depiction of the infamous Fred Flintstone, the shows central character doing what he is doing best…. Bowling. Although, It seems he was bowling more than the 10 pins in front of him…..

For those of you youngsters who are still in the dark, The Flintstones was the first animated television sitcom to appear on US, subsequently international television. After 166 episodes and 6 years in prime time television, The Flintstones was eventually cancelled. This spawned a global phenomenon in mass merchandising deals in the form of paraphernalia, Clothing, Amusement park rides and Cereals! This show was also the first to make use of a “laugh track” which is common to all current sitcoms.

This video depictes a great use of stop motion imagery and truly mimicked the nature of the cartoon from the late 1960s.
