Stop Motion Wednesday - The GiantPEN Story
Daniel Neville
Around this time last year Olympus (the guys who make cameras) released an ad that very quickly went viral - gaining more than 2.5 million views - and marked a serious shift in the use of stop motion animation in advertising. The little short was non other than "The Olympus PEN Story"
This week we were lucky enough to be treated to the second installment titled The GiantPEN story. Like the original there were over 60,000 photos taken on an Olympus PEN camera in order to make the ad - BUT this time before all that happened they took 355 individual photos and posted them on billboards before shooting them in real life. I really like the idea that the whole thing was shot solely on the Olympus PEN with no post production to be seen:
If you are interested the original PEN Story was inspired by an animation called Wolf and Pig by Takeuchi Taijin which we have showcased before here. Apparently Takeuchi was involved in the making of the second installment which is nice to hear. Over all I'm not sure its as good as the original but I still like it!
