Crowdsourcing On Facebook - People Projects

Daniel Neville

To open this post I would like to quote directly from Orange, the brand who created 'People Projects' - "We all have ideas and things we want to achieve. Some big, some small." This has to be one of the more honest and truer statements a Facebook application has ever made.

People Projects

Basically People Projects is a Facebook application that allows you to plan personal projects and invite friends (those that are on Facebook) to help you put your ideas, big or small, into action. The application also allows you to join in and help others with their projects too. Tools provided by the application range from creating a dedicated project page, promotional tools including a widget that can be embedded on pages outside Facebook, task lists that the owner of each project can create assign to various people, a time line for setting and keeping track of goals and even virtual rewards for those who volunteer to help out on your project.

People Projects

Personally I love the idea of being able to harness the power of a crowd to complete smaller personal projects and the 'People Projects' app fills this gap almost perfectly. The projects that are currently live in the app demonstrate this perfectly. For example the 'Smile Sharing' project which simply asks participants to smile at a stranger at least once a day. The multiple ways of supporting a project is also a nice touch - you can view and distribute a project in order to just spread the word, express your support for a project by becoming a part of the project and final actually putting yourself forward as an active participant.

People Projects

'People Projects' was created and launched by UK mobile operator Orange and I have to say it fits in almost too perfectly with their brand vision 'Together we can do more". Over all the application is a simple yet perfectly executed example of marketing that attempts to do something with rather than at consumers. Once more for a brand that provides a service that connects people I could not think of a better campaign/project. View the application on Facebook or check out the stand alone website where eight of the most inspiring projects are highlighted every so often.
