TheBetacup.com - Crowdsourcing A Better Coffee Cup
Daniel Neville
Sometimes you can make a big difference by doing something that might seem very small or even inconsequential. The Betacup project is one good example. Think about this - 58 billion paper coffee cups are thrown away, unrecycled, each year. This, as you can imagine, is not exactly the best thing we could be doing for our planet. I'll let Toby Daniel's explain more:
So basically The Betacup project is an effort to reduce this waste by coming up with a more sustainable (recyclable) coffee cup design. The project is calling for design entries via jovoto.com and there is a total of $20,000 waiting for the people who comes up with the best design. The projects is supported by some big brands like Starbucks and design magazine Core77 who I guess are the ones putting up the prize money.
The challenge is an open community project and The Betacup team are expecting collaboration and a real community effort to design a way to drink coffee in a sustainable way. The contest opened on the 1st of April and the submission deadline is on the 15 of June - take a look at some of the entries here.
