Stop Motion Wednesday: T-Shirt War
Daniel Neville
Out of all apparel, t-shirts are regarded as being the number one individual fashion statement. Everybody wants to stick out from the crowd, and wearing a cool t-shirt with an even slicker design is the way to do this! It was only in the 1950s that t-shirt design became popular, where companies moved away from plain colours to experimenting with branding and graphics. These days, we have complete control with what we want designed and printed. Nearly anything can be branded, be it a favourite cartoon character, TV icon, a brand, graphic, digital art or simply something minimal.
The subject of today’s Stop Motion Wednesday is, in fact, t-shirts! The above is an extremely brief history of t-shirt design origins, and before the video is enjoyed, I thought I’d give an even briefer description on how this piece of clothing harnesses the power of crowdsourcing. T-shirt crowdsourcing and customisation is a very popular business within the industry, and many strong communities exist for people to share their designs. Threadless is noted as being the pioneer behind this groundbreaking new business model, and many companies have followed suit. Springleap is another favorite, who too are very successful!
Let me not get carried away - so behold, T-Shirt War - an awesome video involving 2 guys, 222 custom t-shirts and a fire extinguisher.
What’s even more amazing is it took Rhett McLaughlin and Link Nea only 2 days to make and when you consider the amount of photographs, that’s quite impressive. Check out their making of video below to get an idea of how they made it and head over to Rhett and Links site to purchase one of the t-shirts used in the video for yourself… genius!
