Stop Motion Wednesday: Sweet Dreams
Mari Basson
“Sweet Dreams” tells the story of a cupcake with a taste for adventure. Leaving the material confines of modern society, the cupcake sets sail for greener pastures. After being shipwrecked on a foreign island, the cupcake gets back in touch with nature, connecting with a society more in tune with an organic lifestyle. It is a touching tale, with an allegory similar to that of the biblical story Noah’s Ark. Directed by Kirsten Lepore - it one amazing bit of work.
"Sweet Dreams" recently received a Special Jury Award at SXSW 2009. If you are a fan of this stop motion, you can check out more of Kirsten Lepore’s work here.
Warning: this stop motion is rated PG. Under the candy, sugar frosted coating there is a scene about half way through displaying some explicit culinary afternoon delight (i.e. the cupcake gets a little raunchy with a butternut). So if there are kids in the room, you might want to skip the scene at 6:20 unless you want to replace the ‘birds and the bees’ explanation with the ‘cupcake and the squash.’

Very well done Kirsten! - And quite amazing that the love scene is in fact quite raunchy!
Loved it.
