Stop Motion Wednesday: The Narcissism Of Small Differences

Daniel Neville

Todays stop motion film is so good that I honestly thought it was done in 3D at first. The  fluidness of the animation is not something you see everyday in stop motion film and Darryl Erez Hutchison gives this stop motion film a real touch of 3D sharpness.

Small difference

One of the things that really helps bring this sharpness out through is the lighting - I suppose it needed to be done well as the premise of the film hangs on what the lighting is able to produce in terms of shadows but it really is outstanding. I was also left wondering what method was used to create the shadow.. always a good thing, to be left wondering.

The narcissism of small differences is a short film about  about the relationship between man and his own shadow: "Acknowledging the problematic dualities of identity the film evolves in a restless psychological space as the two characters struggle through increasing degrees of conflict to the resolution they are of course one and the same"

If you enjoyed that you can see more of Darryl's work on his site SmallDiferences or here on Aniboom.
