Stop Motion Wednesday: A SHORT LOVE STORY IN STOP MOTION
Daniel Neville
So apparently this is still a work in progress, but I have no idea how Carlos Lascano intends to improve this awesome gem of the stopmotion world. It is amazing how well a simple story - A couple of pencil-outlined birds escape from a little girl´s drawing, leading us through the life she dreams of - can come alive.
The lighting and general feel of this short is what drew me too it. The way that Carlos blends two animation techniques (stopmotion and 2D animation) is not only awesome but its also a hybrid of film making techniques you dont often see. The lighting is another thing about this short that blows my mind - infact it was so good I caught myself actually just wallowing in its awesomeness rather than trying to figure out how Carlos pulled it off.
Over all the short has an amazing aesthetic feel to it probably helped by the fact that all the organic textures such as particles, drops, autumn leaves are real - the hand-drawings were composited over the stopmotion film in post using After Effects - including the backgrounds that were photographed and composited into the final cut.
But enough about how it was made, its good enough to just enjoy it. So please sit back and enjoy a true masterpiece.
