How To Make Your Message Stand Out
Daniel Neville
One of my personal favourite advertising mediums has got to be outdoor ambient work - there is something about the medium that just speaks of great creativity. I love the way that our surroundings can be used to make a messages that might otherwise get lost amongst the clutter stand our and grab our attention.
Ambient advertising has worked well in delivering loads of messages and recently I have noticed a marked increase in the amount of ambient advertising done by non profits or corporate CSI efforts - here is look at six of the best examples of outdoor ambient work with social/evironmental messages attached.
This is probably one of the most targeted topics when it comes to health issues, although there is a lot of attention slowly drifting to alcohol abuse. The execution above from the Lung Association is seriously powerful and I love the way it directly targets smokers as they are the only one who will be putting anything in that poor guys tracioctomy.
As I mentioned there is a large amount of attention that seems to have shifted to alcohol abuse. The two above examples are in my opinion quite effective - the life size sticker is brillinatly positioned and at the very least will make you think of how often you have heard or said those words yourself. The execution from Rikis is awesome and the synergy with the brand and service it provides is brilliantly spot on.
I was very surprised that the above execution came from France, but I guess there is poverty all over the world. Although just a billboard, this is a really an effective execution in my eyes - I love the tie up between the two facts that the average billboard size in France is 12m squared, exactly the same average size of entire families homes.
I have always been a fan of the advertising and messaging that WWF puts out there and the above two examples are just awesome. The light switches were placed in hotels, their simplicity just makes me excited and I would not mind having them around my house... just to remind myself! Then the dolphins caught in the fence was part of a campaign to stop a vote going through in the Japanese parliament that would allow certain fishing laws to be bypassed - the result being a large threat to the dolphins.
All of the above are extremely effective parts of wider campaigns but individually are very powerful. Do you know of any other awesome outdoor ambient work that has a social/environmental message at its heart?

My limited knowledge of German tells me that Zeig Heils comments were a bit on the confusing side.. not too sure it makes sense!

The mirror one is very original.
Yes the Riki's one is cool - so simple and you get the message straight away... should have one in every bathroom!
