Stop Motion Wednesday: A Festival & The Return Of Uncle Creepy
Daniel Neville
So before we plunge into this weeks admittedly creepy yet stunning stop motion video I thought I would let you all know about the world's first stop motion film festival. The inaugural event will run from the 24th to the 25th of October in Montreal.
It's great to hear about the efforts of those passionate stop motion fanatics who just want to get their chosen art form out into the world. The festival will also feature a number of different categories.
- Professional: films commissioned or produced with funds
- Independent: films produced in an independent setting with or without subsidiaries
- Academic: the film has been made in an academic environment as part of a course or as an assignment
This festival is definitely one to keep and eye on - for more info click here
But now for todays stop motion wonder - "Uncle Creepy Returns"
In the 60's there was a group of three horror comics called Eerie, Creepy & Vampirella - they were published in black and white with the exception of their front covers. This year at Comic Con 2009 the Creepy comic was relaunched with an awesome bit of stop motion to boot.
All the stories in Creepy are told by none other than Uncle Creepy and fittingly the video features him inviting readers to join him once again. Produced by the Chiodo brothers (known for their work on Team America & Elf) it's possibly one of the smoothest and most inspiring pieces of stop motion I have seen. The expression and detail in Uncle Creepy's face is just out of this world... Apparently there are plans to create a number of shorts featuring Uncle Creepy - let's hope those don't take too long to show up!
