Websites That Will Get You Noticed

Daniel Neville

A good website can work wonders for your business, especially if you feature something different and stimulating. This is especially true for advertising and marketing agencies that need to show off their creative thinking and big ideas. Inspired Mag published an awesome article listing a few great sites, and we wanted to take a closer look at a few that they mentiioned.

Incognito

Incognito home page

Incognito have an interesting twist to their agency: they are creatives at other, larger agencies! This means that they can offer excellent talent at a fraction of the cost, and yes, they work weekends (or so they say) They focus on smaller, up-and-coming brands so that they can really explore ideas and build the brand up from the ground. The image of the gorilla in a power-suit is carried through to images of founders, ‘Mike’ and ‘Rob’, who are also hidden behind furry suits. The name of the agency says it all – they really are anonymous!

nGenWorks

nGenWorks - HappyWebbies site

This site is a project of nGenWorks, a web design and development agency, who created a list of respected people in the field of web development who can take a joke, and dubbed them ‘HappyWebbies’. The HappyWebbies site shows every ‘Webbie’ as a cartoon face with slitty eyes and a big goofy smile on their face. When you click on one of the faces, it takes you to a page which showcases the T-shirt design dedicated to that ‘HappyWebbie’. Each design has a witty, web-related one-liner. You can choose which design you like best, select your size and buy it!

Ultra Super New Inc

Ultra Super New Inc - homepage

Ultra Super New Inc website is built in Flash and it is super interactive. The landing page features a parodied movie poster which tilts and follows your mouse as it moves.

Ultra Super New Inc - who?

In the ‘who’ section of the site, each employee is animated and bobs happily around the page. You can interact with the little guys by clicking on them – you can see their name, job title and their favourite quote. What’s really unique is that each employee has a Twitter stream showing their latest updates making them seem personal, even if it only says “need ice cream. now”. Ultra Super New is based in Japan and has big brand name clients like Redbull and Swarovski. They create mini sites, mobile sites and a range of advertising media. They aim to engage people and get their attention– with this incredible website; they are one step there already!

Mono

Mono - homepage

My personal favorite, this website for Mono is also built in Flash and is so much fun to play around with. You can click on an area of the face to switch and choose facial features and come up with some really wacky combinations. Apparently there are over 700 000 different faces to make! Mono believes that simpler is better, and therefore have created a different type of agency – there are no department heads, just talented people ready to do some innovative thinking.

Squad

Squad - Elephant

Squad has really gone crazy with Flash on their website – in a ‘crazy’ kind of way. But hey, I like it. You really have to check this site out because the navigation throughout the page is accompanied by animated sketches and off the wall interactive touches. The site’s intro tells us a little story about an elephant dressed up as a princess, being tricked into eating a bomb, all to drive home their slogan: ‘Everything begins with what If’. Squad is based in Greece and has some huge national brands as clients so their unconventional strategy seems to be working well. Gotta love those Geeks... I mean Greeks.

Designer Slash Model

Desiger Slash Model - homepage

Designer Slash Model has come up with a completely different idea for their site: the entire thing is done facetiously. The video which they punt casts really arrogant models as their designers and each one is interviewed about how talented they are.  Everything on the site centres on these ‘model designers’ – there is no real information about the agency! It’s quite a risky strategy if you ask me since the user may love what the agency could potentially offer, but would struggle to find out anything concrete about them. But hey, this could entice the user even more!
