Banksy In Africa
Daniel Neville
Personally I have been a fan of Banksy, the pseudo-anonymous English graffiti artist, for a few years. I love his satirical takes on topics such as politics, culture, and ethics. I also do believe his work can be called art - although that debate continues to rage on. Currently Banksy has an exhibit up named Banksy vs The Bristol Art Museum which the master himself described as "the first show I’ve ever done where taxpayers’ money is being used to hang my pictures up rather than scrape them off”.
More about the exhibit which runs until the 31st of August here and here. Now for those of you who have followed Banksy over the last few years will be familiar with the images below, where he strays into making comment on Africa and its political/social problems.
It now looks as if Banksy is physically in Africa and making sure that his trademark stenciled style ends up on her walls and surfaces. I discovered the following images while looking through the Banksy group on Flickr. It looks like most of the images come from Mali, stretching from Bamako to Timbuktu although there is no official published location or photos of the images.

"I've seen this one in the flesh. Its in the suburbs of Bamako in Mali, West Africa. Banksy was there about 4-5 months ago. Sadly this has been partially painted over, Peaches Geldoff is no more and somebody has added a flower to the collection tin. There's also a few local tags scribbled on the same wall." - Olly C
