MadV - Remember Him?
Daniel Neville
Im sure most of you are aware how fast things can go past on the interent - one day two small british children biting fingers is all over the place (somehow even I thought it was cute) and then next the most popular things is a bizarrely drawn cartoon about a unicorn called Charlie - oh how those videos plagued my student years.
Anyway occasionally there is something out there that you just cant forget not becuase it will forever anyoingly plauge your brain, but beacuse it was really cool. The other day I was reminded, and this probably had something to do with the really cheep copies of V For Vendetta on sale at the shop down my road, of probably the greatest YouTube hero - MadV.
Now for those of you who dont know MadV, and for those of you who do and just want to emerge yourself in his sheer brilliance again, take a look at these two videos;
Anti-Gravity
The String Theory
To really get the sheer brilliance of this guy, and the extents to which YouTube has taken creativity, you must realise that after the first video 'Anti-Gravity' appeared there were loads of people sating the obvious, "Its just a bit of string!" - so what did MadV do? post 'The String Theory" now that my friends is entertainment... classic
But the most creative spark to come from MadV was, if im not mistaken, his last video...in a short cryptic video only 41 seconds in length he held his hand up to the camera showing what he had written on his palm; "One World" this is when viewers began to respond. With over 2,000 responses this small video by MadV was to become the most responded-to-video in YouTubes history. MadV eventually edited all these replies together into one long voiceless and hauntingly creative effort - got a touch of crowdsourcing in there too so we are in love - you can check out this masterpiece here along with some other of this masters creations.
But the biggest thing I think that MadV taught us is that there is no limit to your creativity online .Any plan - no matter how crazy - can turn into something beautiful... you just gotta try. And just because I forgot how much I used to dig MadV here is another video.
