It's My/Your/Our Body Baby
Katharina Scholtz
I've been amazed at how alien the human body can seem when used as design inspiration. It's such an intimate thing that the effect of seeing it segmented or depicted with other materials can be quite unsettling. We're always interested in new ways of looking at things, so I decided to compile some examples that I hope you find interesting (and not just creepy).
"A combination of comfort and fear"
Functional?
While inspired by "running horses", this table makes me think of organic form like strands of hair.
Designed by Lisa Jones, these chairs are laser cut.
I really really don't want to sit in this.
Designer Charlotte Kingsnorth was inspired to create a couch "devoured by its obese occupier".
Have you seen any examples of ways in which the body can inspire design? What effect do these have on you, would you want any of them in your home?
