Just the Music

Katharina Scholtz

Today I'd like to share something that makes me want to shout WOOHOOO! at the office (I've thus far managed to contain myself). We've been covering interesting ways to get music out there, and these two sites certainly fall into that category. They offer a unique experience with the bands they cover.

The Black Cab Sessions - "It is both weird and reputable"
Various bands have been coaxed into doing stripped down performances in the famous black cabs that drive around London. "One song. One take. One Cab." Below are Fireworks Night and Death Cab for Cutie.

La Blogotheque

This site is in French, which gives me the feeling that I'm missing out on half the lovely stuff you can find here (I'm slightly challenged in the French department). The section on the site called Les Concerts A Emporter is where I've been spending my time. We are treated to an entirely different view of well known musicians in these impromptu performances all over Paris. Below check out Bloc Party and Sea Sick Steve.

Wow, I've never heard of him before, but he's amazing. Loved the random baby shots. :)

You'll be proud to know they've done this in SA too with the 'RIKKI'S SESSIONS'. A brilliant young company (called Chasing Migada) so far have covered tAIT, Louise Day, Ragdolls, Kabel Tour, Heart Shaped Heresy and are filming more (e.g. aKING)
Am glad to know we're at least keep up with some things! :)

Rad! Do share a link... Apparently they've done it with taxi's in JHB as well - http://www.taxijam.co.za/node/19. Would be cool to see local companies coming up with some different ideas as well though.

Check out the local version of this concept at www.taxijam.co.za

yeah its a great concept - good to get bite sized samples of bands in unique environment... i set taxijam based on the BCS - but did not want to replicate exactly the same concept - so adopted the traditional african taxis which i think work well in a african context...
