The Allan Gray Orbis Foundation Top 29

by Daniel Neville on 2010/03/04

For those of you who have no idea what the Top 29 is here is a bit of an explanation - Starting with the awarding of the Peperami brief last year we here at Idea Bounty have started handing out Gold, Silver and Bronze Award to the top deserving creatives from each brief. The number of awards for each brief will depend on how many truly outstanding Ideas we received. These Awards are there to help you brag about your good Ideas and they need to be worthy of this!

Allan Gray Orbis Foundation Top29

The Allan Gray Orbis Foundation brief produced a total of 29 really outstanding Ideas - these Ideas were debated and discussed to the finest detail before picking a winner. And even though we only have one winner all the creatives who managed to get their Ideas into this top 29 deserve some credit. To start off here is some praise from the guys over at the Allan Gray Orbis Foundation:

“Picking that winning Big Idea proved to be harder than we had anticipated.  We were highly impressed with the caliber of Ideas that came through from around the world and the detailed extent to which our brief was met.  I would like to thank you for all the hard work and effort you have put into helping us find those minds that will shape the future. The process and outcome exceeded our expectations and we look forward to sharing our resulting selection campaign with you.”

Anthony Farr, CEO, Allan Gray Orbis Foundation

So without further ado here are the top 29 creatives who truly can boost about their Ideas! It should be noted that there were a few creatives who managed to grab more than one Award  - including our winner Lindy Taoushiani who not only walked away with the $3,000 Bounty but a Silver award tucked in her pocket too! Other creatives who deserve a special mentions are Claudette Browne who walked away with a double Silver and a special mention to Gary Willmott who was the winner of our brief for BMW who walked away with a Bronze. Nice work guys! Congratulations to all of you!

Stop Motion Wednesday - HP Invent

by Daniel Neville on 2010/03/03

Ok so this weeks stopmotion is not a true animation but never the less its awesome. Titled HP Invent the film was created by Tom Wrigglesworth and Matt Robinson, two design students from the Kingston University

HP Invent
It was created in response to an open brief from D&DA Student Awards which was set by Hewlett Packard - The brief was something along the lines of  “Present an idea which promotes HP Workstations ability to bring to life anything the creative mind can conceive.” Six weeks and eight printers later this is what Tom and Matt came up with.

Simply brilliant im sure you will agree. Tom and Matt did pick up an award for it, and they deserve it too, but im not sure who the real winner is here. The film has done very well im sure has passed across many a desk around the world. Nice free advertising for Hewlett Packard, im sure they are not complaining. Now someone offer Tom and Matt a job.

Benetton Reckons Their New Face is in the Crowd

by Mari Basson on 2010/03/01

Benetton is going a bit Dove on us – it’s no longer about catwalk clichés and model attitude, they’re looking for real people, natural beauty and fresh faces. And they’re going to find this person online with crowdsourcing through a global casting session.

Applicants from all round the globe can build their own profiles and the community can vote for their favourites. The 100 highest voted entries will be featured in Benetton’s book on global style and will receive 200 Euro to spend in Benetton. From these 20 will be selected and flown to New York for the Benetton 2010 Fall/Winter campaign.

Campaign of the week: Evian “Live Young”

by Greg Schneider on 2010/02/26

Puppies, sex and babies; what do these three things have in common; they all spell sure fire success in any marketing campaign. The net effect; everyone uses them, and the ability to be innovative in doing so is seemingly impossible. Unless of course you’re talking about Evian’s “Live Young” campaign. Which took baby advertising to a whole new level.

Spear headed by the above viral video that had babies, dancing, music and all round cute appeal. This campaign stands out because of how they took it to the nth degree. Capitalizing on people’s initial attraction by allowing them to embrace the babies as if they where their own.

Evian - Live Young site

From downloading the soundtrack, to setting the baby as your wallpaper Evian succeeded in giving the consumer numerous touch points. But what makes this campaign stand out from the others is Evian’s use of social networking sites, most notably Facebook.

Evian - Facebook babies

Evian created Facebook profiles for the video babies, allowing fans to befriend these beloved rollerblading munchkins while inadvertently befriending the brand. I now count Tom Morse, the roller stunt Evian baby, among my Facebook friends. Granted he isn’t real, but the effect he has on Evian customer loyalty definitely is.
